Lexi at the 50-70-90 Celebration (September, 2015)

Similar to Emma's, this portrait of Lexi is in soft focus. When I made a proof print, I was so disappointed that I called myself a "master of out-of-focus portraits." Even though I name it "soft focus," this is not quite right as the blurriness is not the same as softness due to lens spherical abberation. In the past, portraitists inspired by impressionists might have used diffusion filters, vaseline, or even stockings draped over the front of the lens to achieve this mysterious, dream-like effect in their portraits.
